Scrapped Ideas
This blog post is for ideas that were left of the cutting room floor, due to time constraints or other reasons;
Weapon Customisation & Stats
- Items could grant abilities, like wings to fly over terrain
- Geek-based Flavour texts were going to appear when you hovered over the item (the blank area on the character select screen)
Level-Up
- Clearing a map would level up a character's stats. This was implemented, but disabled.
These were scrapped to make testing easier. Customisation exponentially increases the amount of time spent testing all the options, so it had to be cut to make sure there was adequate time to test each map
Single-width terrain
Terrain like "cliffs" could be implemented, where a character could enter from one side but not the other.
Knockback
Skills where you could push an opponent's unit after attacking.
AoE damage
Giving certain moves an area-of-effect, or splash damage in certain attack patterns
Custom Attack Patterns
All targeting in the game is implemented as a diamond pattern, but any other shape could be used too. Common ones considered would be vertical or horizontal lines.
QR Codes and Unlocks
The initial idea was to unlock items as you played, and maybe adding QR codes that could be used on a phone while at Geekfest to unlock these items. This would have been cool to implemented, but ultimately testing unlocks was too time-consuming, so all the items were enabled from the start. This made unlocking unnecessary, and so the QR code idea wasn't done.
